Spills are part of everyday life. Pets bring in dirt, kids knock over drinks, and moisture finds its way onto the floor one way or another. The real question is not whether your flooring will face exposure, but how well it handles it over time. Waterproof flooring has quickly become one of the most in-demand choices in home renovation for exactly this reason.

At Harper Floors, we curated a waterproof flooring collection that covers every room in the home. Discover options spanning waterproof laminate and vinyl plank flooring including SPC, WPC, and ESPC, across a range of styles and price points.

What Is Waterproof Flooring?

Waterproof flooring refers to any floor product with a core construction designed to prevent moisture from penetrating the plank. This differs from water-resistant flooring, which can withstand limited moisture exposure but may still be susceptible to damage with prolonged contact to standing water.

Our flooring collection includes several product types that achieve full waterproof performance through different construction methods. Understanding these differences can help you select the right product for your space, lifestyle, and overall performance needs.

Waterproof Flooring Options at Harper Floors

Each flooring type offers its own balance of durability, comfort, and visual appeal:

  • Waterproof Laminate: Combines the warmth of a wood-look surface with a sealed, moisture-resistant core. Unlike traditional laminate, it is designed to resist swelling and warping when exposed to water. This makes it an ideal choice for spaces that demand both elevated design and dependable everyday performance.
  • SPC Vinyl Plank (Stone Plastic Composite): Built with a rigid core made from limestone and stabilizers, SPC stands out for its strength and durability. It handles heavy foot traffic and high-moisture conditions with ease – ideal for bathrooms, laundry rooms, and basements.
  • WPC Vinyl Plank (Wood Plastic Composite): Features a softer, more cushioned core compared to SPC. This adds comfort underfoot while still delivering full waterproof protection. A strong option for living areas and spaces where you spend extended time standing or walking.
  • ESPC Vinyl Plank: A hybrid construction that bridges the gap between SPC and WPC in both performance and comfort. It combines a rigid core with enhanced sound absorption and comfort underfoot. It’s especially well-suited for open-concept spaces and multi-level homes where acoustics and everyday comfort are important considerations.

Where Waterproof Flooring Performs Best

Waterproof flooring is designed to perform beautifully throughout nearly every area of the home. It is especially well-suited for spaces where traditional hardwood or standard laminate may be more vulnerable to moisture and everyday wear:

  • Kitchens: Handles everyday spills, splashes, and heavy foot traffic with ease.
  • Bathrooms: Waterproof construction provides dependable performance in moisture-prone spaces.
  • Basements: Ideal for below-grade areas with elevated humidity and ambient moisture.
  • Laundry Rooms: A practical solution for appliance leaks, humidity, and everyday moisture exposure.
  • Entryways: Stands up well to wet shoes, umbrellas, and tracked-in water.
  • Kids’ Rooms & Pet-Friendly Homes: Makes cleanup from spills and accidents quick and stress-free.

Before committing to a full order, it is always worth seeing the floor in your own space. Lighting, wall colors, and surrounding finishes can all influence how a floor looks once it is laid. Order samples and compare your shortlisted options at home before placing your order.

FAQs

Is waterproof flooring the same as water-resistant flooring?

No. Waterproof flooring uses a core that prevents moisture from entering the plank, making it suitable for extended exposure. Water-resistant flooring can handle light or short-term contact with moisture but may degrade if water sits too long or seeps into joints. Options like SPC, WPC, ESPC vinyl plank, and waterproof laminate all deliver full waterproof performance.

Can waterproof flooring be installed in bathrooms?

Yes, waterproof flooring is appropriate for bathroom installations. SPC and ESPC vinyl plank formats are particularly well-suited given their rigid, moisture-impervious cores. It is worth paying attention to the installation method around wet areas. Keep grout lines and wall junctions properly sealed to prevent moisture from getting beneath the floor.

Does waterproof flooring require a special underlayment?

Not always. Most waterproof flooring products now come with a pre-attached underlayment layer already bonded to the plank. Products without pre-attached underlayment may require a separate underlayment. Installations over a concrete subfloor will require a polyfilm moisture barrier regardless of the pre-attached underlayment. Always check the product specifications and follow the manufacturer's installation guidelines for the best long-term results.
